Terms of Service

Village Wardrobe connects users renting and lending premium clothing. Every rental is picked up and returned, either in person or via delivery service, at a participating partner dry cleaner near you. There is currently no shipping, but we are working on it! The dry cleaner professionally cleans each piece between rentals.

We’re currently piloting in Boston (including Cambridge) and Charleston, and expect to expand over time.

You must create an account to request a rental or list an item, and you must be at least 18 years old to do so. You’re responsible for keeping your login information secure and for all activity under your account. Every account can rent and lend.

Please provide accurate information when you sign up and when you list an item. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

To rent a piece, submit a request with your chosen dates (from 1 up to 30 days). We’ll confirm availability and approve or decline your request, typically within 24 hours. Need more time than you originally requested? Extensions are possible depending on demand — just submit a request.

Pick up your rental at the confirmed dry cleaner on your start date (bring your QR code and order number) and return it to the same dry cleaner by your return date. Rentals are for personal use only. Please don’t alter, sublet, or resell a rented item.

We collect your payment details securely through Stripe when you submit a rental request, but you are not charged until your request is approved. If a request isn’t approved, you are never charged.

Delivery is available at an additional cost within a limited radius of Charleston. All prices are shown in U.S. dollars before you submit a request.

You can cancel a rental request free of charge at any time before it’s approved. Once you’ve been charged, cancellations are reviewed case by case together with the dry cleaner, and refunds are not guaranteed — we take into account how close your rental was to pickup and whether the piece can still be re-listed in time.

If an item doesn’t fit once you’ve picked it up, flag the fit issue under your order number and return it to the dry cleaner as soon as possible — no later than 12 hours after pickup — for a partial refund in accordance with our cancellation policy above.

If you accidentally damage or stain an item during your rental, note and document the damage under your order number as soon as possible. You may be charged additional cleaning or repair fees for damage that can be fixed. For damage that can’t be repaired, or for a lost item, you’ll be billed for its replacement value as disclosed on the listing.

Anyone with an account can submit a listing for review. We review, price, and publish each listing, and every piece is dropped off at your assigned dry cleaner before it goes live for rent.

When a rental completes, your payout is the rental price minus Village Wardrobe’s 20% platform fee, a cleaning fee charged by the dry cleaner (typically $20–$40 per item), and a small processing fee. Payouts are sent via Stripe Connect once you’ve connected a payout account. You’re responsible for making sure your listed items are accurately described, clean, and in the condition stated.

Our partner dry cleaners handle pickup, return, and professional cleaning for every rental. They are independent local businesses, not Village Wardrobe employees.

If you opt in to SMS messages from Village Wardrobe, you consent to receive texts about your rental activity and account updates. Message frequency varies. Standard carrier rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for assistance. Consent to SMS is not required to use the Service.

You agree not to: list counterfeit, stolen, or unsafe items; misrepresent an item’s condition, size, or authenticity; use the platform for any unlawful purpose; misuse or intentionally damage a rented item; attempt to circumvent our dry-cleaner pickup/return process; interfere with the operation of our platform; or harass or discriminate against other users or our partner cleaners.

All content on the Service — including our name, logo, photography, and written materials — belongs to Village Wardrobe, LLC and may not be reproduced or used without our written permission.

Village Wardrobe is a marketplace that connects renters, lenders, and dry cleaners — we don’t manufacture, own, or physically handle the majority of listed items ourselves. The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, and we don’t guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access, or that every rental will be available, defect-free, or exactly as described, though we work with lenders and dry cleaners to make that the norm.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Village Wardrobe, LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid for the rental giving rise to that claim.

You may stop using Village Wardrobe at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, misuse the platform, or put other users, lenders, or our partner cleaners at risk.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We’ll post the revised version here with an updated date, and continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware.
